Specifically, Towamencin, Upper Moreland, Lower Moreland, Cheltenham, and Plymouth require volunteers. Currently, approximately 2,800 residents of Montgomery County have already committed to volunteering to staff polling places and assist in canvassing absentee and mail-in ballots.

Most poll workers tend to be elderly, and ongoing concerns related to COVID-19 have limited their availability in many regions. The responsibilities of poll workers can vary depending on the location but generally include tasks such as setting up the polling areas, greeting voters, verifying registrations, and distributing ballots. Additionally, they provide guidance on how to use the voting equipment.

Given the prevalence of voter fraud claims in both 2020 and 2021 and the likelihood of increased scrutiny, as we approach November, officials emphasize the critical importance of a robust force of poll workers to uphold the integrity of democracy.

"Having an adequate number of poll workers to staff polling places on and before Election Day will ensure voters receive the assistance they need at the polls, reduce the potential for long lines or congestion, and help provide a positive and smooth voting experience for all voters," as per the non-profit Election Assistance Commission.
